Marcel Giwargis is an award-winning independent filmmaker with over twenty years of industry experience as a director, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer. As an Assyrian refugee, his works focus on personal identity, the clash of cultures, and the immigrant experience. His films have screened internationally at numerous festivals.
As a screenwriter and author, Marcel’s soon-to-be published book “Cinema Aesthetics” takes a deep look at movies bridging art theory, philosophy, and film. An accomplished photographer, Marcel has worked on countless shoots ranging from Portraiture to Documentary.
In his college practice, Marcel is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Pasadena City College and a Lecturer in the Television, Film, and Media Studies Department at California State University, Los Angeles. He teaches Film History, Aesthetics, Production, Post-Production, Cinematography, and Portfolio.
Marcel is a graduate of the prestigious University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts (MFA – Film and Television Production). Currently, Marcel is combining his love for film and philosophy and is soon to complete his MA in Philosophy at California State University, Los Angeles.
